I urge the House to support SB 840

To [Decision Maker],

I continue to be concerned about the unintended ramifications of last legislative session's SB 180 and its impact on local planning and land use decisions.

I urge the House to support SB 840 as the best vehicle to fix the problems caused by SB 180 because it:
-Narrows the scope of SB 180's language to be more specific to hurricane recovery applications
-Removes the especially damaging and undefined "more restrictive or burdensome" phrasing from SB 180
-Redefines an "impacted local government" as listed within the federal register and within 50, rather than the original 100 miles, of a declared storm track
-Restores home rule and the ability of local governments to forge ahead with the comprehensive planning and adoption process more generally, including building resilience, even if there are some restrictions on enforcement directly following storms

SB 840 has been successfully passed by the Senate and has been transmitted to the House. The House can rectify the damaging provisions of SB 180 by taking up SB 840 and seeing it complete its progress towards a positive floor vote. Please support the adoption of this important solution to some of the wide-ranging impacts SB 180 introduced to local planning efforts.

Sincerely,
